The Bujang Valley lies at the foot of Gunung Jerai in Kedah.
We went for a day trip to see the archeological sites / artifacts / museum on Monday 27th Sept. morning after stopping by at a market in Prai to have breakfast. Chung then switched on his GPS to guide us there.
The GPS was technically accurate but misleading. It brought us to an actual excavation site amidst a sprawling rice field. Two old ladies staying nearby pointed us to the small site but the pakcik guard told us he could not allo public visitors in. So we took some pictures of the surroundings instead.
( by the way, if the images appear blurry, it is blogspot's rendering which is at fault when you access the images. Or you need to change your PC / connection / whatever. Don't blame MY pictures... )
The sight was just awesome.
It was really a hot and bright day
A sight that we can never see in the urban jungle of KL
Arthur trying to digitise a dragonfly among the rice stalks
FS and Arthur trying still to capture the elusive dragonflies on memory cards
Believe it or not, this bull was actually excited at seeing our group. I don't know why.
We finally found the museum site after losing our way to a waterfall spot and driving around a fair bit. So we stopped by a coffee shop for light snacks before proceeding to the museum. This was the signpost just outside the museum
A display of some ancient sampans made out of tree trunks was also outside the museum
The museum on left viewed from the carpark. There were no other visitors probably because it was around lunch, and there was only 1 museum staff who recorded our details before we were allowed in (free)
A Hindu deity figurine on display
Some well preserved receptacles
A vessel for liquids
Another Hindu figurine
I think this is a lingga, one of the many on display
Chiselled in stone : a sanskrit text
The same inscription translated onto paper
Stone lotus carving
A Buddha statuette
A jar within a square stone container
Part of a carved dragon stairway barricade
A broken pottery
To give an idea where we were... the yellow sign is where the museum is located
A reconstructed candi base, taken from its excavation site and placed within the compound
This candi is on situ (on site) at a higher ground
Another view of the same candi
It must have looked grand in its heyday against the blue sky
A lonely leaking modern amenity amdist the humbled ruins
General view of the valley where bujangs once abound
A small stream with a weir which feeds a small treatment plant downstream
Different perspective of the same weir
We walked around to see what else was in store
Spotted this on a pillar of one of the many gazebos around the grounds. Interested parties may call, since this is after all, public ( it says Faiza pakwe encem )
Resting from the heat of the sun at one of the gazebos
The small water treatment plant intake
