Mini crisis... (final update @ 6:00pm, 30th Dec)

Earlier this evening (29th December) after dinner, Edi took his medication as usual. But apparently for some inexplicable reason, he took the wrong medication. He was supposed to take a variant of aspirin, but instead he took the medication meant to lower his blood pressure (Covasc). He only realised it after we came back from the pasar malam nearby to buy some fruits and biscuits. He was feeling a little "strange" as he put it.

Not surprisingly, he soon became stressed and decided to go to the clinic. Lucky he called and the nurse said the doctor was about to leave soon. After requesting for the doctor to wait a short while, I accompanied him to the clinic which is about 5 minutes' walk away.

The anxiety he was feeling showed up in his BP which the doctor measured. Instead of lowering his BP (which the drug is supposed to do), it actually went up. I was called into the consultation and the doctor instructed me to take Edi's BP reading every hour from that point in time. She said that if the reading goes too low or too high, then it's best Edi be sent to the nearest hospital. Edi requested her to give a letter for admission in case he needed to be warded some time in the next few hours to morning.

I took the first reading at 11pm. It was a bit higher than his normal reading ( I keep track of it every week ). At 12am I took another reading and it was a bit lower than his usual. As I write this now, it will be another 15 minutes before the next reading. Hopefully it won't show a yet lower reading. If it does, I'd have to be on the lookout for symptoms of low blood pressure. Ben has already told me to call him at any time in case I need help. I hope it isn't necessary..

update: as at 1:00am his BP reading looks a bit more "normal"

Right now I just surf and chat a bit with Lemon from Penang who wants to keep me company. I just told him to go sleep since he has to work tomorrow..

update: as at 2:00am his BP remains fairly "normal"

Edi is going back to his room to sleep. He was on the lazy chair at the dining area since we came back from the clinic.

I am going to sleep too..

Will post updates when available.

update: this morning's readings seem just a little high. I think he didn't have enough proper sleep. Also, he has been taking some medication for his runny nose which has been ongoing for a couple of days already. He's resting on the lazy chair. Will monitor for the rest of the day.

update: by 2:00pm he looked rather weak and his BP was low. He was sweating a bit and so I decided to bring him to the hospital. Lucky I managed to get FS to come as he was on leave and was in bangsar area. I called the hospital but the regular cadiologist attending to Edi was on leave, and I had to make a quick appointment to see another cardiologist.

FS fetched us to the hospital. There were quite a number of patients and Edi was feeling rather cold. Finally when his turn came, the cardiologist read his medical history and examined him. He diagnosed Edi as having "acute depressive anxiety". In his actual words, he said Edi "got his heart back after the bypass in Melbourne, but he has yet to get his life back mentally". He advised Edi not to worry at all about his heart : it's in perfect condition, but he has to begin addressing his mental outlook about his condition.

As I write this update, it is 6:00pm and we just got back. I think he will be fine from now. It won't be overnight, but at least he has the assurance that his medical condition is not an issue anymore. For that, we are all grateful...

Till the next posting, and take care you all~~!!!

Melaka : gula only for some...

Yesterday, 27th December, Ben wanted to go to Malacca for a day trip. We had a quick breakfast near my place and then drove down. He wanted to buy a lampshade at Jonker Street.

There was a jam as we approached the town centre (city? heritage city..). We could have enjoyed traffic jams at out leisure in KL... but then Malacca has different sights, no?

The upgraded, updated and amended riverside which is much better than any river in KL. At least there aren't any plastic bags floating around. And the river doesn't stink.

One of the many tourist barges plying up and down the river

One of the resuscitated, restored and renovated old buildings being put to better use for the tourist horde.

Part of the local tourists.. he he he hee..

The real local tourist horde

Not a tourist, but part of the local scene. He must've been tired of the ravenous crowd each day.

Thriving business

From the other side of the river I saw this waterwheel. Couldn't figure out the structural style from which period in history.

Boy and chicken (real boy, fake chicken). Outside the chicken rice ball shop

A huge signage for Jonker Street. Commercialism has finally set in.

A collection of malay balls. The sepak takraw bola

Modern bric-bracs at the antique shops location

Colourful modern flip-flops

Updated old-style wooden clogs

I gave up trying to photograph more wares on sale for 3 main reasons:
a) there were far too many modern trash offered for sale to the toursits;
b) there were far too many tourist jostling to take each other's pictures;
c) many of the shops displayed "No Cameras" sign.. what the heck..

After a short break at a cafe where we met up with FS & friends who came down a day earlier, we strolled to this temple (the oldest in the country)

A very nice dragon motif at the main entrance door

A lone lotus in a big pot

One of the many figurines at the temple's backyard

Spotted this beautiful facade a few doors down the temple street

Nice name for a shop

Another nice name. For B&B I think

Spotted this blacksmith's furnace along the road

The old and the young. They were all there.

More colourful modern trash for sale

A quick souvenir shot

Gaudy and expensive trishaw rides.

This is another trishaw's roofing. Plastic flowers, no less.

Probably a Bufori. Not exactly fake vintage. But close. The pride radiating from the diver's face wasn't faked though.

Making our way back

Last shot of the river

Ben didn't get his lampshade. The shop doesn't stock the shape he wanted anymore. On the way home, we stopped somewhere near Dengkil for a dinner of satay. Then we continued our way home..

Meri Kurimatsu......

Had an invite by FS to go for Christmas Day lunch. It was at Albion in Jalan Berangan (KL) at 2pm since it was already crowded earlier.

We went to Hotel Grand Millenium to meet FS and his friend, Andrew who was staying there. There was this small choir ensemble singing Christmas songs at the lobby.

Chung and FS talking about.... food, I guess...  hehehee.. Notice the scroll tied with a ribbon? That's the menu.

FS and Andrew

About to start the main course... TURKEY of course..!!!

The turkey main dish

This was the dessert I took. Very nice.. Delicious... yummmyy...

After filling our tummies... we looked happy, no?

Outside the restaurant

Hopefully FS / Chung would give me the pictures they took soon, so I can update this posting later.

Hope you all had a Merry Christmas too...

Here and there... at Central Market

Few weeks ago, we went to Central Market to meet up with a very long-time friend, Tony who is now residing in Melbourne. I haven't met him in like 20 years I guess.

We were supposed to meet at McD's there, but it was already closed for some time ( see, that shows how long I've not been to that area ), so we decided to have lunch at KFC instead. The side alley between Central Market and the row of old shophouses (which houses KFC) was also closed off to "renovate" it into a pedestrian mall. If I remember correctly, that area was already a pedestrian mall... maybe we need more ugly updated things there.. who knows..?

Tony looks almost like he did before. Except of course we all do grow older...

Between the three of us, we miraculously finished this tub.

Halway during our lunch, Shin called to say he was close by and wanted to join us. He came with another friend, who soon left. Then all four of us went into Central Market to browse around.

I like this colourful display at Famous Amos. Pity I can't eat them.

Another sinfully sweet display

There were many shops and stalls displaying bric-bracs

Someone would like this.. but I think it is too tiny.

No, these aren't real. But they look good enough.

...and right after the above shot, a security guard came over and told us we can't take pictures inside Central Market without "proper permission" (whatever that means). I didn't want to argue with him so I just gave him a blank look and kept my camera away.

I saw many other others taking pictures but they were not told off. But then again they appeared to be foreign tourists, so I supposed it's OK for them. Only the locals are not allowed apparently. Presumably they don't want locals to promote Central Market and its contents. So I conclude the place isn't meant much for us poor common locals...

A day there, a day here...

A few shots from some recent days...

Monday, 15th November.

Johan..  Ben's friend chatted with us at Low Yat Plaza. I wanted to take a pic of his hairstyle..  heehehee

...from another angle..

At KLCC's fountain park

There were many tourists

The cloudy evening made it difficult to get a good image

From another angle

Ben said "Take a pic of me.."

Three unknown tourists asked Ben to help take their pic.

After dinner, we went to the same spot to see the lights. There was a low cloud above the towers

I think its lighted up every night

Leaning.... photographer, not tower

The low cloud drifted away fast

The bridge

Still so many tourists lingering at night although the fountain wasn't lighted up for some reason

Wednesday, 17th November, Hari Raya Adha at my brother's house

Trying out Mike's extender on my lense

Good for real close-ups..

The cactus in focus

Orange Antartica

Yummilicious

Extreme close up of a battery pack contacts

Frozen Fountain

Another view

Nature by design

Mike and his camera

About RM30,000/ worth of stuffs (including the one I was using to take the pic)

Helping to clean the sensor of my nephew's 350D

Edi busy reading the day's news

Deciding to get into the act as well

Very straightforward and non-complicated

John (a niece's husband) being poisoned into remaining with the canon group... heheheee

Till the next posting~~!!
